"TUCKLER"
www.nietzschefamilycircus.comLyrics :
If hearts are only meant to break and trade
Why do you buy me so many useless things This city is full of plenty men with better sins You could only leave me for a place I'll never know Inside your hollowed hole Where shame pulls you down I miss the way you'd tell me the world is on a frown The corner of the lips of a saint without joy It took so long to know you You shoulda stayed a boy You shoulda stayed a boy Let me down Let me down let me go now I'll be yours again Let me down Let me down let me go now And the sun'll breeze away I'll show you how a woman stakes her claim on the lawns of your terrible mind, your troubled kind I'll show you how a woman stakes her claim As she pulls apart your chain Let me down Let me down let me go now I'll be yours again Let me down Let me down let me go now And the sun'll breeze away I'll show you where a woman keeps her heart It's buried beneath the secrets I'll tell To keep us apart Let me down Let me down let me go now You broken man Let me down Let me down let me go now You'll never see me again And the sun'll breeze away |
Shortly after the Calgary flood, out having
a coffee with Eamon, we bumped into Tuckler who was getting some shelter in
Edmonton. A guy who, according to Eamon, gets things done when he says he will,
"Tuckler" has written for a number of different bands along with all sorts of incarnations of his own projects, and even though I assumed
the mention of my project would soon be forgotten, he contacted me through my
website and sent me some lyrics. Funny thing is he went through an alternate email address, used a pseudonym, and tried to creep me out for a laugh. Little did he know that I'm a tough cookie AND usually I'm the one testing boundaries. Anyhow, when I asked him which link he wanted me to include on this page he sent me the one below his picture. Funny guy.
Working with him was a perfect example of where poetry is all about life experience and personal points of reference. After receiving the lyrics I put them to music, interpreting them a certain way. I later learned that Tuckler’s intention was quite different. Where I saw a woman coaxing her way out of a bad relationship, he wrote it with slightly different things in mind. I went ahead and sent a rough scratch demo to him, and here is his response to the song and working with a woman as a collaborator: "Of course a woman singing makes a difference; for starters it's a whole lot better than a man. When I had written the lyrics I had envisioned a more archetypal femme fatale character, like a woman who seduces a holy man just to watch his faith destroyed and then inherently his pettiness is exposed. But your song is very soft and compassionate, after only two listens the melancholy melody was firmly implanted in my mind." Update:
A new set of lyrics is on it's way and I'm thinking of getting some grittier arrangements once I head into the studio for the previous song.
So he’s a little cryptic and loves challenges (both taking one on and throwing one out there), I think I like working with this guy. |
