EAMON MCGRATH
Eamon has to be one of the hardest working
musicians I know. He fearlessly tackles the stage, but most importantly, he
fearlessly tackles all those pesky aspects that surround the songs: booking,
press, emails, marketing... And of course, he's prolific so in his spare time
he's either writing a new song or recording one.
We had a few great sessions at his parent's place bouncing ideas back and forth over strong black tea, greasy sunny-side up eggs, once we even tackled haiku. He produced a track for me (Ce soir off of Wrecked Tangles and Love Knots) on which he played all the instruments. That’s the crazy thing, I seem to be drawn to working with multi-instrumentalists. It’s either that or Alberta has nothing but. Any how, so far we’ve worked out a number of different rolls. We’ve been each-other’s sounding boards for lyrics, he’s produced, we’ve been each other’s back up singers, I have yet to have him cover one of my songs but that’s in the works, we’ve served as musical support group, taken turns ranting and complaining or getting ecstatic over a new composition or some small stride in the music industry, and the list goes on. What were you thinking
When you left the kitchen To find her done-in From the cocktail she’d been cooking Was she an old friend, a lover Or a one-night impulse buy Was she craving an end or was this the last cry/or was this just a cry it’s all out of mind when it’s out of sight Was it tender or hurried When you wrapped her up tight In some linen and plastic Put her under your bed for the night Were the dreams hers or yours As you slept above Were there nightmares or did you take flight it’s all out of mind when it’s out of sight (BRIDGE??) In the morning smoking your cigarette eating fried eggs you swallow them down Looking forward to the day Another short order cook In the pub down/up the way it’s all out of mind when it’s out of sight Twenty-four, fourty-eight ninety-six hours she lay before they turned the key and took her away And I saw you in black ink and white On the front steps of the courthouse Looking harmless as a church mouse Just a short order cook in the pub down my way |
