BOBBY
Lyrics :
Didn’t She Look Pretty
This place is quiet and cold Like a lone hand without a hand to hold So I guess I’ll go out and walk these streets Cause these walls ain’t got nothing to say to me And it’s pouring rain as far as the eye can see But oh man didn’t she look pretty here with me And those smiling eyes would take me through the day Now this old town is just a shade of gray And you left because I saw things sideways There’s no where else I could have seen it from And we become strangers just like we became lovers But oh man didn’t she look pretty here with me I walk these rainy streets empty hands And now I sleep here all alone, with empty arms Now a cold breeze just shivers through these trees I can come and go as I please Cause all the pain that she had inside I couldn’t see Oh man didn’t she look pretty here with me |
Bobby and I met one night when I was in a
guitar shop drooling over some new Eastman's that had just come in. He walked
in. New to town, he was looking for a hardware store in the one area that would
be that last to provide what he was seeking. I told him if he waited 15 minutes
I'd drive him over so that he could get screws to assemble his drafting table (and no, this is not a set up for a bad pun or a euphemism).
This guy is one of those closet musicians (also not a set up). Even though he can pretty much play anything and has loads of gear, he makes his living drawing and travels around picking a random major centre every few years to try it out. Once, I think he said it was in one of the southern states, he had some extra cash so he booked a studio and recorded a few songs. I was lucky enough to follow my instincts that day. I usually get a pretty good read on people, and judging him to be harmless and kind, we ended up grabbing a bite after the errand. We became friends and I got to be one of the few people on this planet who has heard a couple of his songs. Although he prefers to stay anonymous, he did finally consent to letting me cover Didn't She Look Pretty. A song that I could relate to since he wrote it after breaking his back when his van went over the side of the road in the B.C. mountains. I remember thinking, when he showed me the dents in his speakers, that it was a miracle he was able to walk. (I've been in 2 highway roll-overs since then.) Anyhow, since another reason for doing this project was that I wanted to learn some lesser-know or completely unknown Canadian covers, I definitely was happy to make this song a part of my set list. |
